Will there be school holiday in Lahore on Friday amid worsening smog?

The interim government in Punjab earlier shut down schools, and other educational institutions as the city witnessed air pollution and the levels soared to alarming level.

Air quality Index AQI in the city were around 200, a level categorised as unhealthy by Swiss group IQAir, although it was not as bad as the 400 range hit earlier this week.

Last week, the provincial government in the region closed markets, schools and other facilities for three days as Friday, Saturday, and Sunday was long weekend for millions.

For this week, the government has not issued any announcement for Friday holiday, and fifth day of the week will normal day however, all educational will remain closed on Saturday as per the court verdict.

In recent development, the government ruled out early winter vacations in Lahore despite the fact that a blanket of smog thickened in the metropolis, and adjoining areas, causing residents to visit hospitals.

Meanwhile, the government is taking measures to curb air pollution, and a crackdown against smoke-emitting vehicles is underway.

Lahore continues to remain among most polluted cities in the world AQI touched hazardous level. From vehicle emissions to industrial pollution, and construction activities to stubble burning, the capital of the region grapples with several crisis.

Parts of Lahore received light rain in midnight, and it helped clearing thick smog in the city.

The city witnessed showers in several regions, that also caused dip in mercury, with the moisture level in the air remained over 70pc.
