ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s former ruling party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf will hold new intra-party elections in light of the deadline given by the Election Commission of Pakistan.

For the first time in history, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to elect a new chairman as Imran Khan decided against leading the race. Khan’s counsel and party senior vice-president Sher Afzal Marwat confirmed that Khan will not be contesting intra-party elections.

People are looking eagerly at the contestants for top slot but there is no confirmation about it, Imran Khan’s lawyer said, as the decision would be made on Friday.

Imran Khan is not taking part in the intra-party polls as the former cricketer was disqualified as a parliamentarian for five years in a graft case over alleged corrupt practices.

Senior PTI leader revealed that the party has not reached a final name about who should replace Khan and that a name was expected after a meeting of Imran Khan with the party delegation.

Earlier today, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf rejected reports suggesting that the party will go into new elections with new symbol.

As PTI rivals are looking more confident, bagging the upcoming polls, his supporters claimed that the move comes under an extensive plan to minus Imran Khan by infiltrating the rank.
