LAHORE – Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf Senior Vice President Sher Afzal Marwat has been arrested by the Lahore police on Thursday, days after he was held in KP.

Cops detained a dissent leader held in the provincial capital under section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO). Clips of his arrest surfaced online, showing police personnel taking away Mr Marwat near GPO Chowk.

The lawyer-turned-politician was then shifted to an unknown place after his arrest.

His party quickly responded to his arrest, denouncing his arrest, calling it “shameful and disgusting”. A tweet shared on microblogging platform said the caretaker government has no respect for the courts.

Abduction of lawyers from the premises of LHC is absolutely shameful and represents once again the respect for courts in the eyes of those in power. Caretaker government is crossing all limits of fascism.

The famous lawyer was recently picked up for the post of Senior Vice President. He remained part of Imran Khan led PTI for many years, but rose to fame after May 9 riots. He reportedly represented PTI founder in several case of cases including the Toshakhana case.

A couple of days back, cops attempted to detain him near the Gulabad area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lower Dir district. He was later released over the outrage of local residents and party workers.
