KARACHI – Corruption remained a longstanding menace in parts of the world including Pakistan and it had a major impact on country’s political, economic, and social development, and the latest trends in Pakistan were revealed by Transparency International.
In its report, National Corruption Perception Surveys, the international non-governmental organisation reveals perception of levels and frequency of corruption perceived by the Pakistani people.
The survey conducted in four provinces from 13 October 2023 to 31 October 2023 with 1,600 respondents revealed shocking findings on widespread corruption across many sectors.
It said police (law enforcement) remain the most corrupt sector, Tendering and Contracting remained the second spot while Judiciary was ranked third. The report further said education improved in corruption factor.
As the education sector improves, the health department moves down. It also finds out anti-corruption institutions like NAB and FIA failed to stop the menace of corruption.
Many respondents pointed out the absence of merit in several key institutions, while majority of people called for transparent disclosure of public officials’ assets and income sources.
Majority of people were of the view that corruption increased environmental risks in Pakistan, underscoring the far-reaching implications of this pervasive issue.
