Pakistan advances to quarter-finals of FIH Junior Hockey World Cup 2023

KUALA LUMPUR – Pakistan remained among the best hockey teams in the world in the 70s and 90s and now Boys in Green have another chance to excel at the top hockey event.

Green Shirts on Saturday advanced to quarter finals in Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup 2023 which is being held in Kuala Lumpur.

The national junior team finished second in their pool after the group stage match against Belgium that ended in draw at 1-1. The team will now face Spain in the quarter-final round on December 12.

Earlier in the event, Pakistan registered a 3-3 draw against the Netherlands in their opening match.

In their last event, the Pakistani team was under pressure in the first half at 2-0 but Sufian Khan, Arbaz Ahmed, and midfielder Arshad Liaqat hit goals to bring the Asian side back into the game.

In the 36th minute, Pakistan earned a penalty corner but later Sufian Khan displayed A-game, hitting a drag-flick into the goalpost, leveling score to 2-2.

The Netherlands then hits a goal in 47th minute, then Pakistan’s Arbaz Ahmed hits back with a penalty corner, leveling score to 3-3.
