Is world conscience asleep?

AT a time when an intensive baseless propaganda is being leashed against Islam and its followers on account of terrorism, the world conscience seems to have slept while the Jewish state is unleashing unprecedented atrocities and terrorism against Gazans. It has killed thousands in relentless bombing of the besieged Palestinian territory and injured many more but it crossed all limits by carrying out an air raid on a hospital in Central Gaza on Tuesday, killing five hundred people and injuring a large number of others. The Gaza Health Ministry said Al-Ahli Hospital was bombed without any prior warning, causing severe destruction which would prevent the hospital from continuing and providing medical services for thousands of people. There are “hundreds of victims” under the rubble of a Gaza hospital compound that was hit by Israeli bombing, said the Health Ministry in the besieged coastal enclave.

It is a matter of shame for the United Nations, Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC), Arab League and the world at large that patients and shelterless people were deliberately targeted by Israel as part of the broader genocide of the Palestinian people, who have also been deprived of an opportunity to receive medical treatment after being injured in continuing Israeli raids elsewhere in Gaza Strip. Israeli behaviour is understandable as it receives open political, diplomatic and material support from some of the powerful countries, who otherwise consider themselves to be the champions of human rights. This was highlighted a day earlier when a harmless Russian-sponsored resolution seeking a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza could not be adopted in the UN Security Council because of opposition by the United States, the United Kingdom, France and Japan besides questionable abstention by six other countries. The Jewish state is encouraged by condemnable inaction by the international community as it watched silently while Tel Aviv bombed a UN-run school in Gaza sheltering four thousand people. What a shame that the President of the only superpower of the world did not condemn the atrocious behaviour of Israel and instead kept his Tel Aviv visit intact, which amounts to tacit approval of the state-sponsored terrorism. In this backdrop, the OIC should speak loudly and act swiftly before it is too late.
