FBR cuts taxes on mobile phones for overseas Pakistani; Check customs value list

KARACHI – The Directorate General of Customs Valuation of the Federal Board of Revenue has reduced taxes on used/refurbished mobile phones for overseas Pakistanis travelling to their home country as the customs value of the phones has been re-determined.

The directorate has issued the Valuation Ruling No. 1834/2023 to replace the previous valuation issued nine months ago. It has re-determined the value of mobile phones under Section 25-A of the Customs Act, 1969.

The official document says various markets were checked to observe the actual prices/of mobile phone devices. On the basis of available data/information collected and exercise conducted, the values of subject goods have been determined under sub-Section (7) of Section 25′,’ of the Customs Act, 1969.

Under the new valuation, overseas Pakistan will be able to get depreciation up to 60 percent on used/refurbished mobile phones.

The used/refurbished mobile phones imported by “bonafide passengers” shall also be assessed on the customs values given as allowance for their depreciation is also incorporated in the said tabulated values.

The directorate said that the revised customs valuation does not entertain the importers of the mobile phones.
