PERTH – Australia thrashed Pakistan by 360 runs in the first Test at WACA ground on Sunday to go one up in a two-match series.

Chasing a mammoth 450 runs target for an unlikely victory, Pakistan were bundled out on 89 runs in 30.2 overs to give the hosts a convincing victory on the fourth day of the Test match.

Saud Shakeel remained the top scorer with 24 runs. Babar Azam made 24 and Imam-ul-Haq 10 runs. No other Pakistani batter could enter the double figures.

Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood bagged three wickets each and Nathan Lyon took two while Pat Cummins took one wicket. Agha Salman was run out.

While taking the first wicket, Nathan Lyon joined Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath on the list of getting 500 or more Test wickets for the Aussies.

Earlier, Australia declared the innings at 233/5 after lunch to set a 450-run target for the visitors.

Usman Khawaja scored 90 runs, Mitchell Marsh 63 and Stev Smith 45 runs.

Mitchell Marsh was named player of the match for good performance with the bat in both innings.
